Online supermarkets that deliver groceries and more right to your doorstep. By Michele Koh
After spending a long day at work, grocery shopping is probably the last thing you want to do. Rush hour traffic, finding a parking space at the mall and standing in line at the check-out queue can be a real pain. Well, now you can come home to a fully stocked fridge without having to go through the hassle of trolleys with dodgy steering or ice-cream that melts while you are stuck in traffic. We take a look at a nifty alternative to grocery shopping—the online supermarket.
Besides food items, Fairprice has an online florist that delivers hampers, table arrangements and condolence wreaths. It also delivers cookware and a good selection of party needs like napkins and plastic cuttery, DIY tools and BBQ accessories.
This site carries the best selection of air flown meats from Australia and New Zealand as well as fresh Norwegian salmon. It also offers premium alternatives under the First Choice house brand and the Wellness 4 Life brand—for the health conscious consumer, as well as the widest range of organic products and the largest most comprehensive wine selection.
It has a reasonably good selection of day-to-day food and household items. But the wine selection is limited, and they only stock Australian labels like Wyndham’s Estate, Lindeman’s, Jacob’s Creek, Eagle Hawk and Wolf Blass. There is also a “product request” button, if you can’t find an item that you want, you can inform YQ and they will try to get it for you.
This e-supermarket is the equivalent of a traditional Indian pantry. You’ll find chick peas, dhal, pappadam and Basmati rice. However, there’s no soy sauce, mayonnaise, Pringles or alcohol here. You’ll also find slightly esoteric items like flower incense sticks in jasmine, sandalwood, prayer oil and ayurvedic soap.
